Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-24

This policy covers themarkolson.com, run by Mark Olson ("I", "me"). It says what I collect, why, who I share it with, and how you can see, change, or delete it. Questions: [email protected].

What I collect

  • Your email address, if you sign up for the weekly email. That is the only thing the sign-up form asks for.
  • Visit and event data from the Meta Pixel: pages viewed, whether you signed up, and the browser, device, and cookie identifiers the pixel reads. See "Cookies and the Meta Pixel" below.
  • Server logs kept by the web host (Cloudflare), such as IP address, browser type, and page requested, to run and protect the site. When you sign up, your IP address is also held for up to one hour to limit repeat sign-ups from one address.
  • Anything you send me if you email me directly.

I do not collect payment details, and I do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

How I use it

  • To send the weekly email you signed up for.
  • To measure visits and sign-ups and to run and improve ads on Facebook and Instagram.
  • To answer you when you write to me.
  • To keep the site secure and stop abuse (for example, spam sign-ups).

I do not sell your email address or rent it to anyone.

Who I share it with

Cookies and the Meta Pixel

This site uses the Meta Pixel, a piece of code from Meta Platforms, Inc. Meta and other third parties may use cookies, web beacons, and similar storage technologies on this site to collect or receive information from this site and elsewhere on the internet. They use that information to provide measurement services and to target ads.

I use it to count visits and sign-ups and to show my ads to people likely to care about them. This site's own code sets no cookies. The Meta Pixel sets its own cookies on this domain (_fbp, and _fbc after you click a Facebook or Instagram ad), and the host, Cloudflare, may set security cookies to block bots.

How to opt out of this collection and use of your information for ad targeting:

How long I keep it

Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Emails you send me are kept as long as needed to answer you. The sign-up IP hold expires after one hour. Server logs and pixel data are kept under Cloudflare's and Meta's own retention rules.

Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link that works at once.
  • Access, correct, or delete: email [email protected] and I will do it within 30 days. Step-by-step instructions are on the data deletion page.
  • Opt out of ad targeting: use the links under "Cookies and the Meta Pixel" above.

Depending on where you live (for example California, other US states with privacy laws, the EU, or the UK), you may have extra rights, such as the right to know what I hold about you, to have it deleted, to opt out of its use for targeted advertising, and to complain to your local data protection authority. I will honor those requests no matter where you live, and I will not treat you differently for making one.

Security

The site runs over HTTPS, and the email list is stored with Resend, not on this site. No system is perfectly secure, but I limit what I collect to keep the risk small.

Links to other sites

Project 2045 links to original sources. Those sites have their own privacy rules, and this policy does not cover them.

Changes

If I change this policy, I will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, I will say so in the weekly email.
